Software containers on the production line
A deployment platform for vehicle production: Kotlin services on AWS Lambda and Step Functions, with a TypeScript control plane.
Senior software engineer · Remote (CET)
Seventeen years across backend, cloud and mobile — mostly at Volkswagen and Audi, where software has to work on a production line, not just in a demo. Outside work I build tools for a volunteer fire brigade. I am looking for a fully remote team working on something that matters.
A few problems I worked on at Volkswagen and Audi.
Platform · Automotive
A deployment platform for vehicle production: Kotlin services on AWS Lambda and Step Functions, with a TypeScript control plane.
Mobile · Diagnostics
A Flutter/Dart/Swift app and a Spring Boot backend that moved vehicle diagnostics from the workshop PC to the phone.
Tooling · CI/CD
An Eclipse RCP tooling environment, a Jenkins/Tycho pipeline, and the migration from legacy source control to Git and Jira.
Things I build outside work, usually because someone needed them.
Personal · Fire brigade
A serverless GPS history service that turns a Traccar feed from an iPad into a GeoJSON route for lagekarte.info — built for a volunteer fire brigade's person searches.
Read the case study →A small data centre in the basement — and my testbed for infrastructure, monitoring and automation.
Two Proxmox VE nodes — a Ryzen 5 3400G and an Intel N100 — run around 20 LXC and VM workloads. The interesting part is the operations around them: Ansible provisions the hosts, Proxmox Backup Server handles backups, TrueNAS provides shared storage, and Prometheus, Grafana, Alertmanager, blackbox-exporter and unpoller keep an eye on 21 targets across the cluster.
Home Assistant runs in its own VM, with KNX, MQTT, UniFi and OPNsense around it. It is where I test infrastructure as code, monitoring, failure modes and automation — and the reason my home network is never boring.
The counterweight to a week in front of screens.
I run and cycle. Running clears my head; cycling gets me outside and further away. Strava is where I keep track.
Follow on Strava →I have spent most of my career close to the places where software meets the physical world: engine control units, vehicle diagnostics, and software deployment into production. That work taught me to care about the unglamorous parts — build pipelines, failure modes, rollback paths and error messages that a technician can act on.
I work across the stack: Java and Spring Boot on the backend, Kotlin and AWS for services, Flutter and Swift for mobile, and the CI/CD that holds it together. I like small teams where engineers own the whole path from design to operations.
